Campton Lower School

Campton Lower School is situated in an attractive village setting backing onto the recreation ground.  The catchment area is the parish of Campton and Chicksands.

The main building was erected in 1875 and has many attractive Victorian architectural features.  The Hall is in this part of the school and is used for assemblies, physical education, music, drama and as a dining hall.

The main building provides bright, attractive classrooms for our Reception and Year 1 children.  A separate block close to the main building houses our Year 2, Year 3 and Year 4 pupils in bright mobile classrooms.

We have good facilities for teaching computer skills and have a small library.

The Old School House contains our main reception, Head Teacher’s office and general staff facilities.

The playground to the rear of the school has access to the village recreation ground which is used for playtimes during the summer months.

The Philosophy of the School

We believe that our school should provide a happy, secure setting in which children can achieve their full potential in all areas of a structured, broad curriculum.  The learning experience provided should ensure that every child has equal opportunity to experience success at his or her own level and progress according to individual rates of development.  Children are helped to grow in confidence and self-esteem, while developing self-discipline and consideration for others in our caring school community.  Our overall aim is to enthuse our children with the joy of learning through stimulating and exciting approaches so that essential positive attitudes and responses to education are developed at this early stage.

The Children

Staff are sensitive to the particular needs of each child and provide individual learning experiences, when appropriate, to match the ability and developmental level of each of our pupils.  There is a family atmosphere within our school and we endeavour to make every child feel a valued member of our small community.  We have 109 pupils on roll at present.

News

A beautiful sunny afternoon greeted Campton schoolchildren last Friday 15 July on the recreation ground for their annual Sports Day. It was off to a flying start at 1.15pm with competitive track races. Plenty of parents and other relatives were there to cheer them on. A bouncy Castle provided the venue for younger children who were sponsored for the ‘Two-minute Bounce’, organised by the ‘Friends of Campton’ to raise money for School funds. The older children ran sponsored circuits round the field. All children were given the opportunity to choose whether to be an athlete competing for a place on the finishing line, a sponsored ‘Bouncer’ or if they wished to opt out of events altogether, they could do so. A heroic finishing race run by ‘The Dads’ was, as always, a great success.
The House Cup was presented by Mrs Carol Sawyers, the Chair of the Parish Council, rounding off a strenuous and enjoyable afternoon. Staff and helpers, as always deserve a thank you, for hosting an afternoon to remember and serving delicious refreshments to thirsty children and cheerleaders.
